Locations & Situations: The 20th Century Landscape
Second Floor Gallery

This exhibition is drawn entirely from mima's permanent collection and presents almost a century of British painting. It includes the work of many of the finest artists of the modern era, including David Bomberg, Ivon Hitchens, Christopher Wood, Keith Vaughan, Joseph Herman, Leon Kossoff and Hughie O'Donoghue. The exhibition reflects on the way that artists engage with and utilise the character of a given place or situation: From urban to rural and from the surreal to the everyday. The wide ranging selection of works suggests that painters exploit the climate, terrain and nature of their depicted environments, real or imagined, to strengthen their ideas about the world we inhabit.
